How We Verify Vendor Pages (and What We Ignore)
Every number on TrustSift carries a source URL and a capture date. Here is exactly how that number got there.
What we capture
- Price — the published single-purchase price on the official page. If only bundle pricing is shown, we record the smallest published per-unit price and note it.
- Refund window — the money-back guarantee term stated on the official page.
- Ingredient lists — only ingredients actually published on the page. A "proprietary blend" without a list is recorded as unknown, not guessed.
- Red flags — auto-ship clauses, fake countdown timers, missing refund policies, undisclosed subscriptions, exaggerated claims.
What we ignore
- Marketing language. "Melt 62lbs of deadly fat" is a claim, not data. Claims are only recorded when they match a documented red flag.
- Third-party articles. We never copy a price or refund term from another blog — we verify it against the source page ourselves.
- Anything behind a fake countdown. When a page shows a timer, the price next to it is the promotional price; we record it as such.
Why some products show "unknown"
Some vendor pages load their pricing with JavaScript, or block our verification agent. In those cases the data stays unknown until we can verify it — the SiftScore handles it neutrally at 50, and the page says so honestly.
Corrections
Vendors change prices and refund terms all the time. Our pipeline re-verifies every product daily, snapshots the values, and flags changes of more than ±5% — that's how the price-history charts stay honest.
